"There is no limit."
Frantz Zephirin was born in 1968. He is the
24th of 48 children sired by his father (with 19 different women).
Zephirin was raised by his grandmother near her vodou compound in Cap-Haitien before moving to Port-au-Prince at
the age of 16. He started painting in 1973 with the Haitian master Antoine
Obin, but soon pulled away from the stylized Cap-Haitien school. Today,
his work is characterized by its bright colors, patterns, tightly
compacted compositions and by the human figures with animal heads, which
represent his cynicism for the ruling body. His inspiration comes from Haitian history, politics, the bible, and vodou.

Frantz Zephirin is certainly one of the most sought after
contemporary Haitian artists. He has been painting for nearly 25 years and his
style is instantly recognizable. In the past few years Zephirin has expressed
his desire to try something different and expand himself artistically. He has
started exploring both different techniques and media in his paintings. Not only
has Zephirin been incorporating photographic images within his traditional
painting style as in 21-403 and 20-905, he has been experimenting with oil and
pastel sticks. For a highly successful artist to branch out stylistically takes
a lot of courage. It is for this reason that Frantz Zephirin continues to be on
the Haitian Art Company's favorite artists!!
